Object & Verbs
Remarks:
  • In Japanese, the subject of sentence need not be expressed when it can easily be understood. For example the subject “I” need not be there for a sentence like this:

Nihon go o hanashimasu. (I) speak Japanese.

  • The object consists of two elements
i)                   a noun – e.g. mado (window)
ii)                a marker, the particle “o” whose function is to point out the word preceding it as the object of the sentence.

LESSON SEVEN (2)

Doko e ikimashita ka. Where did you go?

Let’s learn past tense verbs. For things that happened in the past, we change them to the past form. A ~masu form verb becomes ~mashita. The past tense for ikimasu “go” is ikimashita.

e.g.    Kyō depāto e ikimasu. Today I go to the department store.
Kinō depāto e ikimashita. Yesterday I went to the department store.

A         : Itsu Kyoto e kaerimasu ka. When are you going back to Kyoto?
B         : Asatte kaerimasu. Tomorrow (I’m) going back.

à Basu de ikimasu. By bus.

  1. Dare to Tokyo e ikimasu ka. With whom are you going to Tokyo?
à Hitori de ikimasu. I’m going alone.

  1. Ashita doko e ikimasu ka. Where are you going tomorrow?
à Umi e ikimasu. (I’m) going to the beach.

Lesson Three ^^


Nani o tabemasu ka.

Hi there! I’m on diet now, another regime of diet. I started my diet on Feb 28, 2011 and suppose to end it end of this month. It is a two-month diet program, a low-carb diet. Up to now, I’ve lost 9.5 kg! Amazing isn’t it? Well, I’ll tell you more about my diet in my next entry. Now, because I’m on diet, I always feel hungry and all I can think about is  food, and eating. That’s why I came up with this topic today, Nani o tabemasu ka literally means “what do you eat?” or “what do you want to eat?”

B: Miruku to kōhī o nomimasu. (I) drink milk and coffee.

àSushi o tabemasu. I’d like to eat sushi.

àOcha o nomimasu. I’d like to drink tea.

  1. Ryōri wa oishii desu ka. Is the food delicious?
àHai, oishii desu. Yes, it’s delicious /  Iie, mazui desu. No, it’s awful.
